I think I was first made aware of the death taxes in this state after watching this video where Tim Boyle (a billionaire) complains about his taxes as though he truly suffers a major hardship.
This article goes even further, elucidating extravagant tax on millionaires+, as disgusting as these complaints appear to those who will never see the end of their lives with millions of dollars in assets, it does make a few good points
- Ideally such a tax should account for the cost of living, there ought to be localized adjustment to how much it actually costs to live here, so basing it on inflation does make more sense. Keeping taxes, fees, or wages flat for years on end never makes sense and it should be adjusted every year based on agreed upon framework.
- I do believe there should be an exception for a person’s main domicile. If someone owns property in excess of the one they live in the most, that should all be taxed the full rate. We could go into other variations of taxing landholders.
I do have a problem with the lack of pride such people have about paying taxes. It’s tantamount to treason to me, a betrayal of our community. Those that thrive here should want to contribute the most to our community. The way we make our communities better is by chipping in for little things, like public services.
This is a work in progress, I’ll update with further notes later…
